Cathlapotle Plankhouse Photograph
Photograph of the Cathlapotle Plankhouse by Raul Moreno. The photo was the winner of the 2017 Friends of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge Photo Contest.
How it represents the community’s American experience:
We chose the America250 theme of “resilience” and the Ridgefield theme of “perseverance,” as evidenced by this photograph of the contemporary plankhouse, which stands as a reminder of the thousands of people who lived at Cathlapotle Village for hundreds of years. Built as part of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration, the structure was modeled on plankhouses excavated by archaeologists at the village site.
On display at the Greely Building, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., August 22, 23, 28, 29, and September 5, 2026.
