The Washington State America’s 250th Local History Writing Contest is a free statewide writing competition for Washington students in grades 5–12, presented by Youth for History in partnership with Washington State America’s 250th. Students are invited to submit an original piece of writing based on one of three themes: We the People, Power of Place, or Sharing History. The contest encourages students to discover and share the people, places, and stories that shaped their communities. The submission deadline is October 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Awards include a $100 Grand Prize, $50 Excellence Award, and $20 Merit Award.
