The Karshner Museum & Center for Culture & Arts invites the community to the opening of The American Experience: Stories of Freedom, Equality and Identity exhibit.

Inspired by the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence, this new exhibit explores the continuing American story through the themes of freedom, equality, opportunity, identity, and voice. Through artifacts, photographs, historical documents, and interactive experiences, visitors will discover how people from many backgrounds have contributed to our nation and how their stories continue to shape the American experience.

The exhibit examines both the aspirations and the challenges of our history, highlighting the experiences of individuals and communities whose voices have too often been overlooked. It explores how Americans have expressed their identities, worked to expand equality and opportunity, preserved cultural traditions, and used their voices to inspire change and strengthen their communities.

Rather than presenting history as a completed story, The American Experience invites visitors to see our nation’s history as an ongoing journey. Each generation has added new perspectives, expanded the meaning of freedom, and written another chapter in the American story.

The exhibit opening will be held on Saturday, August 8, noon – 5pm, in conjunction with the nationwide commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Third Saturday programs, beginning September 19, along with special festivals, performances, storytelling, music, art activities, and conversations, will each explore a different chapter of the American experience—connecting the stories of the past with the voices and experiences that continue to shape our future.

The exhibit will also be on display Tuesday–Thursdays, 1–4 p.m., starting September 8.

Visitors of all ages are invited to explore, reflect, and discover how the American story continues to unfold—and how every voice has the power to become part of its next chapter.

Admission is always free.
