Coronation of Womanhood

This gold-framed lithographic poster was commissioned in 1885 by suffragist and women’s rights activist Abigail Scott Duniway (1834–1915) and produced by Kurz & Allison’s Art Studio in Chicago, Illinois. Dimensions: 28 in. x 42 in.

All 292 individuals from the Pacific Northwest represented in the image are numbered and listed on a separate Identification Key inscribed with an address by Abigail Scott Duniway. Dimensions: 10 in. x 18.5 in.

 

How it represents the community’s American experience:

Washington State was an early leader in women’s suffrage, with the Washington Territorial Legislature granting voting rights in 1883.

 

On display at Pioneer Hall, every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., June 1 – December 31, 2026.
