Harris Family Rocking Chair
This 19th century rocking chair belonged to the Jared Harris family, who brought it with them in a covered wagon from Wisconsin to Ritzville via South Dakota. The Harris family homesteaded in Ritzville and the chair remained in the family until 2020, when they donated it to the Dr. Frank R. Burroughs Home Museum. The chair is on display with a 19th century quilt, which was used by the Harris family.
How it represents the community’s American experience:
Westward settlers traveling by covered wagon is perhaps the quintessential American experience, and this rocking chair made that journey along with the Jared Harris family. They traveled from Wisconsin to Eastern Washington, where they homesteaded in Ritzville.
On display at the Dr. Frank R. Burroughs Home Museum, Thursday–Saturday, 12–4 p.m. June–August 2026; or by appointment.
