Belonging: Frank Matsura – a sense of place

June 6 - August 1

As part of the America’s 250th theme “The Power of Place”, this art show features artists’ contemporary responses to the photographs of Frank S. Matsura whose images captured a pivotal moment of transition in north-central Washington and the borderland region of Okanogan County.

Matsura’s photographs document a landscape and community in flux—moving from mining to agriculture, from river and horse-based transport to rail, from temporary settlement to rooted communities. His lens recorded not only labor and infrastructure, but play, intimacy, cultural identity, and belonging.

In this exhibition, contemporary artists respond to those themes from today’s perspective, reflecting how ideas of land, work, home, heritage, and community continue to evolve.
