America 250: Revisiting the Bicentennial Freedom Train

Saturday, September 12th, 1:00pm – 4pm
Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive
425 SW 153rd St, Burien WA 98166
As part of the America 250 commemorations, PNRA will host “America 250: Revisiting the Bicentennial Freedom Train,” a group of presentations and discussions with people who worked on the Freedom Train project celebrating America’s Bicentennial. Presenters and panelist include people with experience on the project in many different ways.
The event will begin with Ed Berntsen and Doyle McCormack sharing how the idea of the Freedom Train was born and how it became a reality. This vital history will be followed by presentations by people who worked on the project, from engineers to designers. In addition to individual presentations, the event will include a moderated panel discussion.
The event will take place in person at Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive and online. Some of our presenters will be connecting to the event from Portland, where the restoration of the historic 4449 steam engine took place.
FREE and open to the public. Lunch provided by PNRA. RSVP online if you are able to be there in person.
Attendees can come for all or part of the discussion.
