SUMMARY:America250 Exhibits at the Westport Aquarium
DESCRIPTION:The Westport Aquarium has two special America250 exhibits this year: \nMoments that Made US:  We will have a display of the Moments that Made US exhibit and are focusing on the Western Expansion and the highway expansion of the 1950’s and how that affected the boom of the family run aquariums up and down the west coast. The Westport Aquarium is part of this history. Our aquarium was built in 1957.  And Brady Engvall and his family who built the Westport Aquarium also went down to help build the Morro Bay Aquarium in California in the early 1960’s\, and then came back to Hoodsport in the early 1970’s here in Washington to help run the Hoodsport Aquarium/ Allard’s Aquarium started by the original Point Defiance Aquarium’s developer. We will of course also display the relevant Moments that made us panels to go with our local story.  \nOut of many One Exhibit. We picked\, via community vote\, our shark model.  The time is now for shark education and preservation! \nOn July 3rd from 6-8pm and July 4th 11:30 -3:30pm we will open the exhibits and have hopefully 2 printing presses running for visitors to make prints. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Westport Aquarium will host the Moments That Made US exhibit! \nMoments That Made US\, a special exhibition during the America 250 commemoration\, explores how generations of Americans have given meaning to the ideals set out in the Declaration of Independence.  \nThe exhibition looks back across centuries and highlights both challenging and celebratory times from the colonial era to more recent generations. The exhibition explores five themes drawn directly from the Declaration of Independence: Created Equal; Life\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Happiness; Free and Independent States; Consent of the Governed; and We Mutually Pledge. The featured moments from American history inspire curiosity about the events that shaped the nation. They remind us that our story was never inevitable; we shaped it at every turn.  \nAdmission to the Aquarium varies: Adults – $8.50; Child/senior – $7; 3 & under free \nHours to the Library vary: Thursday-Sunday: 11:30 am – 4:30 pm
